What is BPC-157?

Thirty-six studies of injured muscle, tendon and bone were pulled together in a 2025 review. Only one of the 36 was a study in people; the other 35 were lab or animal work.
In a 2008 experiment, rats had the Achilles tendon severed from the bone. For four days the team watched how they walked, how much swelling there was, and how many new blood vessels formed, setting BPC-157 against a steroid and against salt water.
Six years later, a lab study exposed rat tendon cells to BPC-157 in a dish and measured their receptors for growth hormone, and how the cells grew once growth hormone was supplied.
Human evidence is very thin. Twelve women with a painful bladder condition took part in a 2024 pilot, rating their own symptoms afterwards with no placebo group, and the authors present it as an early test. A 2025 review adds that regulators have not approved BPC-157 for want of human studies.
