In 2017 the New York group turned to mice bred to model Down syndrome, following their early development and later memory.
The Bologna study of 2024 examined CDKL5 deficiency disorder, a rare condition of the brain, testing P021 on nerve cells in a dish and in mice; its results were mixed, with little effect in the mice.
